Which size to choose for a map poster
Published September 25, 2026
The nine sizes Maps With Love prints a map poster in, in centimetres and inches, and how to choose between them.
Which sizes is a map poster printed in?
Five metric sizes and four in inches. In centimetres: 30 × 30 (square), 21 × 30 (A4), 30 × 40, 40 × 50 and 50 × 70. In inches: 12 × 16, 16 × 20, 20 × 28 and 24 × 36.
Which one fits a frame I already own?
The one that matches its inner dimensions. The metric sizes follow common European frame sizes and the inch sizes follow US ones, so pick the frame's system before the size.
How much map fits in each size?
The framing is the same at any size; what changes is the detail. At a large size streets and names read more easily and a single neighbourhood holds its own. At a small size a wider view with fewer labels works better.
Portrait, landscape or square?
It depends on the shape of the place. A coastline or a river running across calls for landscape, a city stretched north to south for portrait, and a compact old town suits a square.
You can try every combination in the editor before ordering, and shipping questions are answered in the FAQ.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I change the poster's orientation?
- Yes. Rectangular sizes print in portrait or landscape; the square format is the same either way.
- Is there an option without printing?
- Yes. Besides a printed poster shipped to your door, the design can be bought as a digital PDF.
